Where Do I Oil My Janome Sewing Machine?

|

There are a few different places you can oil your Janome sewing machine depending on which model you have.

Consult your manual for specific instructions but in general you can oil:

  • The needle bar (where the needle is attached)
  • The feed dogs (the teeth that move the fabric through the machine)
  • The shuttle race (the area where the shuttle moves back and forth)
  • The check spring (this helps keep the tension even)
  • And the bobbin case (this helps keep the thread from tangling).

Janome sewing machines are built to last but like any piece of machinery they need a little upkeep now and then to run their best.

A few drops of oil every now and then will keep your machine running smoothly for years to come.

Does A Janome Sewing Machine Need Oiling?

Yes a Janome sewing machine needs oiling.

It is important to oil your Janome sewing machine after every 8 hours of use. You can also oil it once a month even if you haven’t used it for 8 hours.

To oil your Janome sewing machine you will need to remove the needle plate and bobbin cover.

Next add a few drops of sewing machine oil to the hook race (the part where the bobbin goes).

Finally replace the needle plate and bobbin cover and run your sewing machine for a few minutes to spread the oil around.

Where Do You Put Oil In A Janome?

Put a drop of oil in each of the following places before starting sewing.

On Screws:

There are three screws on the faceplate of your Janome machine.

You will find them near the needle plate screw and the handwheel. loosen each screw slightly and add one or two drops of oil before retightening them.

In Auto-Locking Hubs:

There are several plastic auto-locking hubs located throughout your machine. To oil them remove the hub cap and add a single drop of oil to the hole before replacing the hub cap.

In Metal Bobbin Case:

You will find a metal bobbin case cover on the side or back of your machine where you insert the bobbin.

Remove the case cover and add one or two drops of oil to the hole before replacing the case cover.

In-Seam Ripper:

If your machine has a built-in seam ripper open the seam ripper housing and add one drop of oil to each of the three holes inside before closing the housing.

On Bobbin Winder Tension Disc:

There is a small tension disc on the side of your machine near the bobbin winder that helps control the tension on the thread as it winds onto the bobbin. Add one drop of oil to this disc.

On Feed Dogs:

The feed dogs are located under the needle plate and help move the fabric through the machine as you sew. Add one or two drops of oil to each of the four feed dogs.

In Hook Race:

The hook race is located under the needle plate and holds the bobbin case in place.

Add one drop of oil to this hole.

On Take-Up Lever:

The take-up lever is located on the right side of your machine and helps raise and lower the needle. add one drop of oil to this lever.

On Balance Wheel:

The balance wheel is located on the right side of your machine and helps control the tension on the thread. add one or two drops of oil to this wheel.

How Do You Lubricate A Janome Sewing Machine?

If you’re having trouble getting your Janome sewing machine to run smoothly it might be time to lubricate it.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to do just that:

  1. Start by unplugging your sewing machine from any power source.

You don’t want to risk getting electrocuted while you’re working on the delicate inner workings of your machine!

  2. Take off the casing of your machine. On most Janome models this is done by removing a few screws on the side or back panel. Consult your owner’s manual for specific instructions on how to do this for your particular model.
  3. Once you have access to the mechanisms inside locate the spot where the shuttle race is.

This is the area where the shuttle moves back and forth.

  4. Add a few drops of sewing machine oil to the shuttle race. You can also add a drop or two to the check spring while you’re at it. This will help keep the tension even.
  5. Put your machine back together and plug it in.

Run it for a few minutes to spread the oil around before you start sewing again.

You should lubricate your Janome sewing machine every 8 hours of use or once a month whichever comes first.

This will help keep your machine running smoothly and prevent any costly repairs down the line.

Where Do I Oil My Sewing Machine?

Most sewing machines will have an oiling port somewhere on the machine.

Consult your sewing machine’s manual to find the precise location of the oiling port on your machine.

Once you’ve found it use a small needle or toothpick to apply a few drops of sewing machine oil into the port.

Run your machine for a few minutes to distribute the oil then wipe away any excess with a clean cloth before continuing to sew.
